Trends and new designs are always changing and for Spring/Summer 2017 season the menswear section is all about mix&match, presenting a fusion of classic, athleisure and casual style.
So for sure, men's S/S 2017 wardrobes will be full of contrasts and innovative clothing items, inspired by a modern man who blends together evergreen staple pieces with visionary designs in order to embrace a contemporary yet cosmopolite approach.
At New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week, designers spread a new vision of male fashion, adding innovative lines, dimensions and patterns to classic must-have pieces. So, this is why runway shows were permeated with outdoor hiking inspired pieces, oversized outwear, vintage sportwear lines and eccentric rainwear.
To better understand which are the most relevant trends we saw on the runways and that will be must have pieces for the season, let's see the TOP 5 Menswear trends for Spring/Summer 2017:
#1 The Backpack
Backpacks are becoming a must have in every man's wardrobe and for S/S 2017, designers reinvented this staple piece adding new volumes and textures to it. For example Gucci backpack mixes together unusual safari vibes with the classic logo of the maison and Louis Vuitton adds some classic British aesthetic to a sportwear inspired piece.
#2 Oversized Shoulders
Designers decided to spice up classic suits by adding bold shoulders, recalling some 80's and 90's trends. Balenciaga decided to incorporate this trend into his collections, pairing it with sleek lines and pastel colors, while Lanvin opted for oversized shoulders contrasting with relaxed lines and materials.
#3 Super Short Shorts
Shorts are an evergreen piece for menswear and for this Spring/Summer 2017 season shorts are getting even shorter. Fendi opted for a pijama style in a delicate light blue shade and Comme de Garçons Plus went creative adding to short shorts some sheer fabric.
Overalls made a huge come back this season and they are reinvented in a contemporary way by maison Louis Vuitton that added some zipper details to them and Junya Watanabe who presents an all-white version of this mechanical chic piece.
#5 Sheer Textures
It might seem unusual but sheer textures have entered into the menswear dimension and for S/S 2017 season, designers had fun playing with different shapes, prints and pairings. Off-White presented an urban version of the sheer trend, adding bold black prints to this delicate texture. Instead Y/Project enhanced the delicacy of sheer materials incorporating some floral embroideries to t-shirts and thank tops.
